CANDY CANE COOKIES 
3/4 c. butter
3/4 c. sugar
1 egg
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. peppermint extract
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. red food coloring
1/4 tsp. green food coloring

Cream butter and sugar; beat in egg, vanilla, and peppermint extract on high speed. Mix for 3 minutes. In small mixing bowl blend flour with salt and baking powder. Stir into cream mixture. Divide dough in half. Blend food coloring in, one color to each half. Divide each into 12 balls, put in cereal bowl and cover. Label and put on supply table. Chill dough.

NEXT DAY: Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Roll each ball to a 5 inch rope. For each candy pinch together one end of a red rope and one end of a green rope; twist the ropes together. Pinch other two ends together. Place on ungreased cookie sheet; curve to form a cane. Bake 10 minutes.
