SOPAPILLAS 
2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. shortening
3/4 c. cold water
Oil for frying

Sift all ingredients together. Cut in shortening until mealy. Work in water gradually to form a dough. Knead on board until smooth. Roll as thin as possible, cut in 2 inch or 3 inch squares. Fry one at a time in hot fat (370 degrees). Turn while frying to brown and puff second side. Makes 20-30.
