3/4 c. milk 2 c. flour 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1 1/2 tsp. lard or butter 1/2 pkg. active dry yeast Oil for deep frying Honey to dip Bring the milk to a boil, let cool. Combine flour, salt and baking powder in a medium bowl. Cut in the shortening until it looks like coarse meal. Make hole in the center to place yeast. Dissolve yeast - 1/4 cup warm water and 1/2 cup of milk, then pour it into center hole. Then mix it up with the dough, adding milk so dough stays together. Knead 15 times. Cover. Let stand 10 minutes. Heat oil. Roll dough out and cut into triangles. Cover with towel. Add a few triangles at a time to boil. They should puff, fry until golden brown. Do not reuse scraps of dough. Dip in honey. |
