1 c. butter
2 c. sugar
3 c. flour
4 eggs
1 c. milk
2 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. vanilla extract
1 tsp. salt

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease two 9 inch cake pans.

In large mixing bowl beat together butter, sugar and eggs. Alternate adding partial amounts of flour and milk until well-blended. Mix in baking powder, vanilla extract and salt. Beat mixture until well-blended. Pour into pans. Bake 35 to 40 minutes (time seems to vary greatly with different ovens) or until knife inserted comes out clean. This cake is a "heavy" cake. Frost as desired.
