2 1/2 c. dried apples (cooked, unsweetened)
4 tsp. baking soda
1 c. blackberry jam
1 c. shortening (or Wesson oil)
4 c. flour
2 c. sugar
1 c. chopped nuts
1 c. raisins
1 c. grape juice
1 tsp. cinnamon, allspice, cloves & nutmeg

Cream shortening and sugar. Add dried apples to which soda has been added. Sift flour and spices together, add gradually with grape juice. Add jam; mix well then add nuts and raisins. This makes 4 to 6 layers.
