DOUGHNUTS 
1 egg
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. milk
2 c. sifted plain flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
2 tsp. baking powder
3 tbsp. melted Crisco
Crisco for deep frying

Combine beaten egg, sugar and melted Crisco. Add milk. Mix flour with baking powder, salt and nutmeg. Combine the liquid and dry ingredients, stirring only until smooth. Roll dough to 1/2 inch thickness on floured board on canvas. Cut with floured doughnut cutter. Fry in Crisco heated to 365 degrees. Turn when brown and fry until brown on both sides. Remove and drain on paper toweling.
