BUTTERMILK BREAD | |
2 pkgs. dry yeast 1/2 c. warm water 1 3/4 c. hot scalded buttermilk 1/2 c. butter 1/2 c. sugar 2 eggs 2 tsp. vanilla 1 tsp. salt 7 1/2 to 8 c. flour Soften the yeast in the warm water. Combine the hot scalded buttermilk with the butter and sugar in a large mixing bowl. Cool to lukewarm and stir in the slightly beaten eggs, vanilla, salt, and the softened yeast. Gradually add the flour to form a workable dough, knead well 5 to 7 minutes. Place in greased bowl. Let rise approximately 1 hour. Remove from bowl and shape into 2 loaves. Place in greased loaf pans, cover and let rise approximately 1 hour. Bake about 30 minutes at 350 degrees. |
