3 c. sugar
1 c. Crisco
1 tsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp. salt
1/3 tsp. baking soda
3 c. Gold Medal flour
5 eggs
1 c. buttermilk

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour a large tube pan. Cream Crisco and sugar. Add vanilla and eggs (1 at a time). Add salt and soda to flour. Alternately add dry ingredients and buttermilk to mixture. Pour into tube pan. Bake for 1 1/4 hours. Test with toothpick during the last 1/4 hour. Do not over bake.
