GINGERSNAPS 
1/2 C shortening
1 egg
2 1/4 c self-rising flour
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1 C brown sugar, packed
1/4 C molasses
1 tsp. ground ginger
Granulated sugar

Mix thoroughly shortening, brown sugar, egg & molasses. Blend in remaining ingredients, except sugar. Cover and chill for 1 hour. Heat oven to 375°F. Shape dough by rounded tsp. into balls. Dip top in granulated sugar. Place balls sugared side up three inches apart on lightly greased baking sheet.

Bake 10-12 minutes or just until set. Immediately remove from baking sheet.

Yield 4 dozen.
