1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/4 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
additional sugar for coating cookies

Heat over to 350°F. Beat butter, shortening and sugar together. Add egg and vanilla. Beat well. Combine flour, baking powder and baking soda and stir into butter mixture a little at a time. Shape into 1-inch balls and roll in additional sugar. Place on greased cookie sheet and flatten them slightly with the bottom of a glass.

Bake for 10-12 minutes. Cool on rack.

Makes about 5 dozen cookies.
