PUMPKIN DUMP CAKE 
1 (29 oz.) can pumpkin
3 c. evaporated milk
2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ginger
1 yellow cake mix
1 c. chopped pecans
4 eggs, well beaten
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cloves
1 stick butter, melted

Mix pumpkin, milk, cinnamon, ginger, eggs, sugar, salt and cloves together well. Pour into greased and floured 9 x 13 pan. sprinkle with cake mix, drizzle with melted butter, then sprinkle with pecans.

Bake at 350°F for 1 hour and 20 minutes.

We make this recipe but add the "dump" step... when done baking, turn upside down... the crunch top now becomes the bottom crust; frost with a cream cheese frosting and make sure you have people to share with or you may eat the whole thing yourself!

We made this for Thanksgiving. It was delicious but not all of the cake mix disolved in the butter. Had a lot of cake mix loose on top, still very good but strange to be eating cake mix that was baked with no liquid. Any ideas about what we did wrong?

Becky, I doubled the butter as other recipes I found called for 3/4 to 1 cup of butter. That might fix your problem. All of the cake mix on mine had some butter in it.

We make one similar to this recipe with a few differences one being we just cube the butter on top of walnuts and let it melt in the oven. I have not had any issues with the cake still being powder in spots, also you have more control of where the butter will be placed.

I love this recipe. I always mix cake with melted butter till it is a crumbly topping. You can mix in pecans or just sprinkle them on top. Yummy!!!!

I use 2 sticks of melted butter. Never a problem with dry cake mix on top.

Butter issue: I leave stick of butter in refrigerator until cake is assembled. GRATE cold butter stick evenly over cake mix. No problem with dry spots. 1 stick of butter is sufficient. On the cake above, 1 can pumpkin, 1 can evaporated milk, 3 eggs. Fantastic.
