SOFT OATMEAL COOKIES 
2 eggs, unbeaten
1 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. brown sugar
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
3/4 tsp. baking soda
1/4 c. sour milk
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. uncooked oats
1 3/4 c. sifted flour
1 c. nuts or raisins

Make sour milk by adding a small amount of vinegar. Set aside. Mix all ingredients, creaming eggs, shortening and sugar first. Add spices, sour milk, vanilla and mix well. Add oats, flour and nuts or raisins last. Drop by teaspoonfuls on cookie sheet. Bake 8 to 10 minutes at 350 degrees.
