I used Chocolate Pudding instead of the vanilla and, put it in one of those little plastic wheelbarrows from Walmart. The family loved it!

Try this with Golden Oreos and pistachio pudding for an amazing sand cake!

We have made various versions of this cake. One was a farm with model railroad sized pigs, horses and a tractor. Another was a flower garden with chocolate roses (hollow on a 4-inch stem) It was inserted into a 3-inch straw inserted into melted chocolate base for a ballast (used a paper ketchup from a fast food chain). Always a hit.

I'm making this in individual metal pails for my sons 4th birthday party. Make a great single serve desert. Along with blueberry cupcakes with cream cheese frosting. So tired of the same boring party foods. Trying to create a unique fun menu for this party.

For an alternative, use Nabisco Chocolate Cookie Wafers instead of Oreos. When you put them in a blender, you get a fine powder and they spread much more evenly; additionally, they are less sugary and are much softer.

I love this cake and need to make it more often. I have a special flower pot with a matching scoop to serve it with. I just line the pot with foil. I do cut the worms in half as they are too long. Kids love it when you remove the plastic flower and start to serve the "dirt"!

Sorry, forgot to tell the most important thing.... to crush up the Oreos, I use a food processor... works great!

I don't like the texture of cool whip, & I would have planned to serve it in individual dishes & just let people put cool whip on theirs if they want to.
