ELEPHANT EARS
1 c. milk, powdered
1 1/2 tbsp. sugar
2 1/2 tbsp. shortening
1 tbsp. salt
1 pkg. yeast
1 c. warm water
3 c. flour

TOPPING:

1 c. sugar
3 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 c. melted butter

Scald milk, add sugar, salt and shortening. Cool to lukewarm.

In a large bowl, sprinkle yeast into warm water and stir until dissolved. Add milk mixture and 1 cup flour. Beat until smooth. Stir in enough flour to make a stiff dough.

Turn out on board and knead 8 to 10 minutes. Place in greased bowl. Let rise in warm place overnight. Divide dough into 5 to 6 balls. Roll each ball in a circle to make a large ear, 1/4" thick or thinner. Fry in hot oil 375 degrees for 3 to 5 minutes on each side. Drain off excess grease. Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon mixture.
