BIRD FEEDER CANDLES | |
Preparation: 15 minutes. Baking: 3 hours. Yield: 5-10 candles. 5 lbs. suet Wild bird seed Sunflower seeds Crunchy peanut butter Red cherries Sm. milk cartons or paper cups Potpie pans Place suet in covered roaster; bake at 300 degrees for 3 hours, or until all fat is rendered. Strain; measure, reserving 1 cup. Combine bird seed with sunflower seeds. Mix 2 cups warm fat to 1 cup seeds. Pour into 8 ounce cartons; refrigerate. When ready to use, melt reserved fat. Peel paper cartons off seed mixture. Set each "candle" into a potpie pan; pour melted fat around each candle to secure. Frost top with peanut butter and add a cherry for the flame. |
