DATE WALNUT DOUBLE DECKER 
1 1/4 c. sifted flour
1/3 c. granulated sugar
1/2 c. butter

Combine flour, sugar and butter. Blend to fine crumbs. Pack into bottom of greased 9 inch square pan. Bake about 20 minutes at 350 degrees until edges are light brown.

TOP LAYER:

1/3 c. light brown sugar, packed
1/3 c. granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
2 tbsp. all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. chopped walnuts
1 (8 oz.) pkg. snipped dates

Combine the sugars, eggs and vanilla and beat together well. Sift flour with baking powder and salt and add to first mixture. Stir in walnuts and dates. Turn batter into pan over hot baked pastry layer. Bake at 350 degrees about 20 minutes longer. Cool in pan. Sprinkle top with powdered sugar then cut into bars.
