RED VELVET CAKE 
1 c. butter
2 c. sugar
2 eggs

Cream above together. Blend together:

1 tbsp. vinegar
1 tbsp. cocoa
2 oz. red cake coloring

Mix:

2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda

Mix:

1 c. buttermilk
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla

Mix first 3 ingredients. Blend and add the next 3 to mixture; mix next 3 together and add alternately with the last 2, to the batter. Bake in 3 layers in 375 degree oven for 25 to 30 minutes (grease and flour pans).

FILLING:

3 tbsp. flour
1 c. sweet milk

Stir constantly and cook until thick. Add to cooked filling as it cools, beat until thick:

1 c. sugar
1 c. butter

Add:

1/2 c. coconut
1/2 c. nut meats, crushed

(Enough for generous filling).
