FRENCH APPLE COBBLER 
FILLING:

5 c. tart apples, peeled, sliced
3/4 c. sugar
2 tbsp. all purpose flour
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tbsp. soft butter
1/4 c. water

BATTER:

1/2 c. sifted flour
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. soft butter
1 egg, slightly beaten

In medium bowl, combine apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, salt, vanilla, and water. Turn into a 9 x 9 x 1 3/4 inch baking dish. Dot apples with butter. Mix ingredients for batter. Drop batter in 9 portions on apples, spacing evenly. (Batter will spread during baking.)

Bake at 400 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes or until apples are tender and crust golden brown. Serve with cream.
