CABBAGE SLAW WITH BOILED
DRESSING
 
1 lg. head of cabbage, shredded
1 lg. onion, sliced
3/4 c. sugar

DRESSING:

1 c. white vinegar
1 tbsp. prepared mustard
1 tbsp. sugar
1 tbsp. celery seed
1 tbsp. salt
1 c. salad oil

Place cabbage and onion in layers in a large bowl. Sprinkle with sugar. Do not stir.

In a saucepan combine all ingredients for dressing, except salad oil. Bring to a boil. Add salad oil and bring to boil again. Pour dressing over cabbage and onions. Do not stir. Refrigerate 24 hours. Mix when ready to serve.

This is very similar to my mother's recipe except we don't use mustard and use more sugar. It keeps a long time in the fridge and just keeps getting better and better. I've often taken it to pot luck lunches and suppers and there is never any left! I'm so glad to see it here. :)
