GERMAN ORANGE CAKE | |
2/3 c. butter, softened 1 3/4 c. sugar 2 eggs 3 c. plain flour 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. salt 1 1/4 c. milk 2 tsp. grated orange rind Mix all ingredients together and pour into 2 (9-inch) greased and floured cake pans. Bake at 350°F for 35 to 45 minutes. Filling: 1 c. sugar 1/4 c. cornstarch 1/2 tsp. salt 1 c. orange juice 2 tbsp. butter 2 tbsp. grated orange rind 2 tbsp. lemon juice Mix sugar, cornstarch and salt in saucepan. Gradually stir in orange juice. Bring to boil over direct heat, stirring constantly. Boil 1 minute; remove from heat. Stir in rest of ingredients. Cool. Spread between the cooled cake layers. |
