7 1/2 c. rolled oats (not instant or quick) 1 c. brown sugar, packed 1 c. wheat germ 1 c. sesame seeds 1 c. sunflower seeds 1 c. shredded coconut 1 c. pecan pieces 2 tsp. salt (optional) These ingredients are better if purchased at health food store. Mix thoroughly all the dry ingredients. (I use a large plastic storage bag.) If you don't have all the nuts and seeds, other kinds may be substituted. 1 tbsp. vanilla 3/4 c. cold water Combine and sprinkle over dry ingredients in plastic bag, mixing well. 3/4 c. oil (I use sesame or light olive oil) Sprinkle over and mix until evenly moistened. Spread in shallow pans. Bake at 250 degrees for 1hour. Stir every 15 minutes for even browning. Cool and store in airtight container. Raisins, chopped apricots or chopped dates may be added to this after browning, if desired. This is a delicious cereal, snack, or topping for ice cream. Yield: 12 cups cereal. 253 calories per 1/2 cup. |
