APPLE MUFFINS 
4 T shortening
1/2 c sugar
1 egg
2 1/3 c flour
1/4 t nutmeg
1/4 t cinnamon
1/2 t salt
3 1/2 t baking powder
1 c milk
1 c diced apple

Cream sugar and shortening. Beat egg until light and add to creamed mixture. In a separate bowl, sift flour, baking powder, salt, nutmeg and cinnamon. Add dry mixture to batter alternately with milk. Add diced apple.

Fill greased muffin tins pans half full with batter and sprinkle with topping mixture.

Bake at 450°F for about 20 minutes.

Topping:

2 T sugar
1/4 t nutmeg
1/4 t cinnamon

Mix together thoroughly in small bowl.
