3/4 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
3 eggs
1 3/4 c. flour
3/4 c. sour milk
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cinnamon
2 tbsp. cocoa
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. lemon extract
1/2 c. coarsely cut nutmeats

Cream shortening. Add sugar gradually, cream thoroughly. Blend in the 3 eggs. Sift flour, baking powder, soda, salt, spices and cocoa all together and add to cream mixture alternately with sour milk. Blend in flour and nuts. Then pour out into greased layer pans. Bake 30 minutes.
