TAFFY APPLES | |
6 medium apples 6 wooden skewers 1 1/2 c. sugar 1/3 c. corn syrup 1/3 c. hot water 1/2 tbsp. vinegar Wash and dry apples. Insert wooden skewers in blossom ends. Place sugar, corn syrup, water, and vinegar in top part of double boiler and stir. Place over low heat, and cook to hard crack stage (300 degrees) or until syrup spins a thread. Remove from heat and add food coloring. Place over boiling water in bottom part of double boiler. Dip apples into hot mixture, and draw out quickly, turn slowly until taffy covers apple evenly. Stand on end on well greased tray so apples don't touch each other as they drain and cool. Serves six to nine. |
