CRISP OATMEAL COOKIES 
2/3 c. shortening
1 tsp. baking soda
2 1/2 c. rolled oats
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/4 c. sugar
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1/2 c. milk
1 1/2 c. flour

Mix well. Chill in refrigerator for 1 to 2 hours. Roll into small balls and place on a greased baking sheet. Flatten with each ball with a glass dipped in sugar. Bake at 400 degrees F. for 6-8 minutes. VERY GOOD!! Small batch - 3 dozen.
