CINNAMON ALMOND BARS 
1 1/2 c. sliced almonds (or walnuts)
1 c. butter, softened
3/4 c. sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 egg, separated
2 c. flour

Crumble nuts and set aside. Cream 1 cup shortening, sugar, egg yolk and cinnamon; blend in flour. Spread into 10 x 15 inch jelly roll pan.

In small bowl beat egg white until frothy. Spread over dough with pastry brush. Sprinkle with crushed nuts and press into dough. Bake at 300 degrees until golden brown, 35-40 minutes.

FROSTING:

3/4 c. powdered sugar
1 tbsp. butter, melted
1/4 tsp. almond extract
2 tbsp. water

Beat together and drizzle evenly over bars. Cool.
