GRANDMA'S PRUNE KRINGLE
1 pkg. yeast
1/2 c. lukewarm water
4 c. flour
1 c. shortening
1 tsp. salt
3 tbsp. sugar
3 eggs
1 c. lukewarm milk
2 tbsp. brown sugar

Dissolve yeast in the half cup warm water. Put flour, shortening, sugar, and salt in a big bowl; mix like pie crust until very fine. Beat 3 egg yolks and 1 egg white. Add the warm milk and yeast mixture to the eggs; mix. Then add this to flour mixture; beat well.

Cover and set in refrigerator overnight. In the morning divide dough into 4 parts; roll thin and spread with 2 egg whites beaten stiff with 2 tablespoons brown sugar. Spread filling over 1/3 to 1/2 of dough. Fold the top back over the filling like an envelope; seal. Let rise 45 minutes to 1 hour.

Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes. Frost with thin powdered sugar frosting while warm. Top with nuts (optional). Makes 4 kringles. If freezing kringle, do not frost until ready to use.
