SEVEN LAYER SALAD 
1/2 head iceburg lettuce (medium large), shredded
1/2 c. chopped celery
1/2 c. chopped peppers, red or green
3/4 c. chopped onion
1/2 pkg. frozen green peas, cooked and drained or canned
1 c. mayonnaise
1 tbsp. sugar
1 1/2 c. coarsely shredded mild cheddar cheese

In large salad bowl arrange lettuce, celery, peppers, onions, and peas in layers. Spread mayonnaise evenly over peas. Sprinkle with sugar, then with cheese. Cover and chill at least 4 hours or overnight. Sprinkle with bacon bits if desired.
