RAISIN SPICE CAKE 
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. seeded raisins
1 1/4 c. water
1/2 c. shortening
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. Allspice
2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. double acting baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt

Boil sugar, raisins, water, shortening and spices 5 minutes. Chill. Sift flour, soda, baking powder, salt together, stir into first mixture. Pour into greased, waxed paper lined loaf pan 9 by 5 by 3 inches. Bake in moderate oven 350 degrees F. for 55 to 60 minutes. Turn out onto cake rack. Remove paper and cool.
