RAISIN SPICE CAKE 
1 c. raisins
2 c. water
1/2 c. butter
1 tsp. vanilla
1 3/4 c. flour
1 c. granulated sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
1 well beaten egg
Chopped walnuts (if desired)
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. allspice

Boil raisins and water 10 minutes. Remove from heat; add butter and vanilla. Let cool completely. Sift and mix dry ingredients; flour, sugar, salt, soda, and spices. Add dry ingredients to raisin mixture; beat well. Add egg and beat again; add chopped walnuts if desired. Bake at 375 degrees for 1 hour (until toothpick comes out clean).
