VIENNESE APPLE STRUDEL | |
DOUGH: 1 1/3 c. flour 1/2 tsp. salt 3 tbsp. butter 1 beaten egg 3 tbsp. milk FILLING: 3 c. thinly sliced apples 1 c. sugar 1/2 c. raisins 1/2 c. chopped pecans or walnuts 1/3 c. dry bread crumbs 6 tbsp. melted butter 1 tsp. cinnamon 1/2 tsp. salt Melted butter Confectioners' sugar DOUGH: Mix flour, salt and butter to make fine crumbs. Mix in eggs and milk. Knead until rubbery. Set in a warm pan for 30 minutes. Divide in half. Roll each half very thin, stretching with hands to make a 12"x10" rectangle. FILLING: Mix all ingredients. Spread over dough. Roll like a jelly roll, beginning at the wide side. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 to 45 minutes. While baking, brush twice with melted butter. Just before serving, dust with confectioners' sugar. Makes 2 strudels. |
