DR. R.'S IRISH SODA BREAD | |
1/2 c. white flour 1 1/2 c. whole wheat flour 1 tsp. salt 3/4 c. buttermilk or sour milk 1 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. sugar 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar Mix all dry ingredients together in a bowl by stirring with a fork. Make a hole in the center, pour in milk and mix together to form dough. If too dry, add milk to make a pliable dough. Knead about 10 times; form into a circular loaf. Cut a deep cross on top surface and bake for 50 minutes to 1 hour at 400 degrees. Bread is best served the day it is baked as it is apt to dry out. However, it makes good toast the second day. |
