IRISH SODA BREAD | |
4 c. sifted flour 3/4 c. sugar 1 level tsp. baking soda 5 level tsp. baking powder 1/2 c. raisins 2 tsp. caraway seeds 2 c. buttermilk or sour milk 1/2 c. butter, butter, or shortening Mix flour, sugar, baking soda, and baking powder together. Add butter and work until mixture looks like coarse meal. Add raisins and caraway seeds. Add buttermilk or sour milk until all mixture is wet (you may not need full 2 cups). Put mixture into greased and floured 9 inch pan. Dust top of dough with flour and cut across top with knife. Bake at 375 degrees for 1 hour or until done. |
