YUMMY BARS | |
1 pkg. caramels (50 or so) 1/2 c. evaporated milk 1 pkg. German chocolate cake mix 3/4 c. melted butter 1/3 c. evaporated milk 1 c. chopped nuts 1 c. chocolate chips Combine caramels and 1/2 cup evaporated milk. Cook over low heat, stirring until melted. Set aside. Grease and flour a 9 x 13 inch pan. In a large bowl combine cake mix, melted butter, 1/3 cup evaporated milk and nuts. Mixture will be thick. Press and spread half of this mixture in pan reserving remainder for topping. Bake at 350 degrees for 8 minutes. Remove from oven and sprinkle chocolate chips over baked crust, spread caramel mixture over chocolate pieces. Crumble remainder of dough over caramel layer. Return to oven and bake 18 to 20 minutes. Cool slightly then refrigerate to set for 30 minutes. Cut into bars. (Don't wait too long to cut.) Store in refrigerator. Freezes well. |
