SOFT PRETZELS | |
1 env. yeast Pinch of sugar 2 tsp. salt Coarse salt (opt.) 4-5 c. flour 4 tsp. baking soda 1 1/4 c. cold water Dissolve yeast in 1/4 cup water. Stir in one additional cup water and pinch of sugar. Pour yeast mixture in bowl, add salt, beat in flour to make stiff dough. Knead 10 minutes. Place in a bowl. Spread with butter. Cover. Let rise 45 minutes until double. Shape into pretzels. Bring 4 cups of water to a boil with baking soda. Drop in a pretzel until it floats. Remove and drain. Place on buttered sheet. Salt with coarse salt. Bake at 475 degrees for 12 minutes. |
