1 1/2 c. unsweetened applesauce
1 c. butter
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. citron or mixed candied fruit; optional
1/2 c. dates; optional
3 c. flour
1 c. sugar
1 c. raisins
1 1/2 c. chopped pecans; optional
2 tsp. baking soda

Cream butter and sugar together. Add applesauce. Add flour, spices and soda. Add fruit and nuts. Mix well. Pour into greased and floured 9 x 13 inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 45-50 minutes. The batter may seem dry, but the cake will be moist.
