DUMPLINGS 
2 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. salt
5 tbsp. Crisco
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1 1/8 c. buttermilk

Sift dry ingredients and cut in shortening. Add buttermilk, stirring with a fork. Turn out on floured board and knead until dough is manageable. Pinch off and drop into boiling broth (or roll out and cut with pizza cutter). Do not stir, but with a wooden spoon, move dumplings over for space to drop more dumplings. Cover and simmer about 20 minutes.
