NINE LAYER CHICKEN CASSEROLE | |
9 slices white bread 5 c. cooked chicken, cut up 2 (4 oz.) cans mushroom pieces, drained 2 cans water chestnuts, drained and sliced 1/2 c. mayonnaise 9 slices Cheddar cheese 4 eggs, plus 2 c. milk 1/2 tsp. salt 1 can cream of chicken soup 1 can cream of celery soup Buttered bread crumbs Cut crusts from bread, save crust for crumbs. Lay bread in large flat, 9 x 13 inch flat casserole. Layer in casserole over bread: chicken, mushrooms, water chestnuts, spread mayonnaise over layers. Mix together eggs, milk, salt and soups. Spoon over layers. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour, uncovered. Remove from oven and cover with buttered bread crumbs. Bake uncovered 15 to 20 minutes, until crumbs are brown. |
