1 c. shortening
3 c. sugar
4 eggs
2 c. applesauce
4 c. flour
2/3 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1 c. nuts and/or fruit

Mix shortening and sugar. Add eggs and applesauce. Sift dry ingredients together and mix; add nuts. (Line tube pan with wax paper.) Bake at 350 degrees for 1 1/2 hours.
