2 c. flour 2 c. sugar 1/2 c. butter 1/2 c. shortening/oil 1 c. strong coffee 1/4 c. cocoa 1/2 c. buttermilk or 2 tsp. vinegar in 1/2 c. milk 2 eggs 1 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. vanilla FROSTING: 1/2 c. butter 2 tbsp. cocoa 1/4 c. milk 3 1/2 c. powdered sugar 1 tsp. vanilla In large bowl, mix flour and sugar. Bring to boiling butter, shortening, coffee, and cocoa. Pour over dry ingredients. Add buttermilk, eggs, baking soda, and vanilla; mix well. Bake in buttered large cake pan at 400 degrees for 20 minutes. Make frosting while brownies bake. Bring to boil butter, cocoa, and milk. Add powdered sugar and vanilla, mixing until frosting is smooth. Pour warm frosting over brownies as soon as removed from oven. Cool. Yield: 48 bars. |
