MOLASSES CAKE 
2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. salt
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 c. shortening
1 beaten egg
1 c. light molasses
1/2 c. hot water

Sift flour and spices, sugar together. Cut in shortening until mix looks like cornmeal.

Combine egg and molasses and stir into flour mix. Add hot water and beat into cake batter until smooth. Pour into greased, oblong pan (9x12). Bake 350 degrees about 45 minutes.
