GRANDMA'S HOMEMADE BROWNIES 
2 cups sugar
1/2 cup cocoa
4 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 cup (2 sticks) butter

Mix sugar, cocoa, eggs and vanilla; gradually add flour and salt. When that is mixed, blend in butter. Spread in a 9x13-inch pan.

Bake at 350°F for 20 to 25 minutes.

Note: No baking soda or powder is needed for this recipe. Chopped nuts are optional.

Holy cow these are hard to stir!!! But well worth it, I substituted Stevia for the sugar and used BestLife butter and they turned out fantastic and super low-cal. Great and easy recipe -- except for the stirring in flour, lol.

These were DELICIOUS! First homemade brownies i have ever made. It is much easier to stir if you add 1/2 cup of flour at a time ! :) Took 35 minutes for mine to bake.

This recipe was really awesome for me, as my house does not usually have very many baking ingredients always handy. I had a little bit of trouble stirring in the flour, even at 1/2 cup at a time, so I added a tablespoon or two of whole milk. I also added about 3/4 of a cup of cocoa instead of 1/2 and added some confectioner's sugar along with some chocolate chips right before baking in the oven.

The brownies came out wonderful and chocolatey. Will be using this recipe (along with my tweaks) again and again! :)

Like other reviewers, I found these hard to stir while adding the flour. I added a little clear soda (about 1/4 cup of Sierra Mist) to the mix to moisten it up a bit. It was much easier to stir then. They also took longer than 25 minutes. Again, like other reviewers mentioned, it was more like 35 minutes. They turned out nice. They taste very good. Very fluffy. They are almost more like cake than brownie. They also have more a buttery taste than I expected. I think if I make them again I will add chocolate chips or something so they are less cake like, half the butter, and replace it with a liquid, like soda or milk. Other than that, they are excellent, just not the best homemade brownie I've ever had.

This recipe was amazing the first time I made these brownies I used a regular spoon and bowl boy those were so hard to stir then I used an automatic mixer worked perfectly alot easier. P.S. That caramel chip idea was amazing.

It was hard when mixing before the butter was added, but after that it was amazing! I love this recipe and I am definitely going to do it again. I highly recommend it especially because it requires no baking powder or soda.

This recipe turned out great! I found it to be very moist, soft, and a perfect gooey chewy texture for brownies with wonderfully chewy edges. It wasn't cake like for me and it took exactly 25 minutes to bake in my oven. It was difficult to stir with a whisk but that's when I switched to a spatula and it was easier with a spatula to fold in the flour and then added the butter. I did melt the butter before I added it. Great recipe and thank you for sharing!! I may try adding some extra ingredients for extra flavor next time. Maybe try peanut butter or coconut. :)

I also used a Kitchen-aid mixer so it wasn't so hard to stir! I'm all for "from scratch" and "old school" but even my great grandmother would be happier if something made her life a little easier.

I also had to cook these longer (~45 minutes), but I used a 10-inch cast iron skillet, so the brownies were about 2-inches thick. The chocolate flavor was perfect for my liking, but as others have said, it was more cake-like (fluffy and spongy) rather than the chewy brownie texture. Another reviewer recommended using 2 eggs instead of 4, which I may do next time to get the chewy texture. I also used Land-O-Lakes light butter in a tub, and stirring seemed fairly easy using a whisk. All-in-all I'd make this recipe again but with half the eggs.

When I made these back in December I found it to be the best homemade brownies ever!! I just used my stand mixer and had no trouble. If I remember correctly I too had to bake them longer than said.

Great recipe! Loved that it didn't call for oil or baking powder. Had no problem mixing in the flour, but my KitchenAid mixer did all the work! Poured in half the mixture & then had my kids sprinkle in se peanut butter chips & candy pieces I wanted to use up & then poured in the rest. Worked great! Mine also took about 35 minutes, but my oven tends to run a tad cold. Will make these again!

I had the opportunity to try out this recipe tonight. After reading several reviews, and contacting the administrator to inquire of the specifics on the type of flour, these brownies turned out perfect. My husband loves chewy fudgy brownies so I only used three eggs, but everything else I prepped exactly as described. With the oven pre-prepped at 350°F my brownies were done at exactly 25 minutes. I didn't have a hard time at all with the stirring. I prepped the flour and salt together and whisked it just a bit, in a separate bowl I mixed the coco and sugar, whisked just a bit, then added the vanilla and eggs. I used my cake blender as I added the flour mix. Once completely mixed, I added the butter and whipped about 15 counts. Perfect, Excellent recipe..!
