Melt 1 bar German sweet chocolate over hot water and stir rapidly until melted. Cool.
Cream together until smooth 2 cups sugar and 1 cup shortening. Add to sugar mixture 4 eggs, 2 teaspoons vanilla, 2 teaspoons butter flavoring and 1 cup buttermilk. Beat until smooth. Sift and add to mixture 3 cups flour, 1/2 teaspoon baking soda and 1 teaspoon salt. Mix well. Blend in chocolate. Pour into greased and floured 9" pan. Bake at 300 degrees for 1 1/2 hours. Remove from pan while hot, cover tightly until cool.
GLAZE: Melt together 1 bar chocolate, 1 tablespoon shortening and 1/4 cup water. Add 1 cup confectioners' sugar, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla and a dash of salt. Drizzle over cake.
