OATMEAL CAKE 
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. butter
1 c. brown sugar
2 eggs
1 1/2 c. flour
1 c. oats
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. nuts
1 1/2 c. water

TOPPING:

1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. canned milks
1/2 c. chopped nuts
1 sm. can coconut
1 tsp. vanilla

CAKE: Pour boiling water over oats and let cool. In a bowl cream butter, both sugars and eggs together. Then add oats and stir in flour, salt, soda, vanilla and nuts. Grease a 9"x5" pan. Bake cake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.

TOPPING: Mix together and pour over hot cake. Then brown in oven on broil for 3 to 5 minutes. Watch closely.

Every year our family gets together on the 4th of July. All of our relatives come from all over and we have a big outing at Minegay's. My grandma would make this every July. This is definitely a family tradition.
