BUTTER CAKE 
2/3 c. soft butter
1 3/4 c. sugar
2 eggs (1/3 to 1/2 c.)
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
3 c. sifted Softasilk flour or 2 3/4 cups sifted Gold Medal flour
2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 1/4 c. milk

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour two layer pans, 9 x 1 1/2 inch or an oblong pan, 13 x 9 x 2 inch. Cream butter, sugar, eggs and vanilla together until fluffy. Beat 5 minutes, high speed on mixer or by hand. Sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Mix in alternately with milk. Use low speed on mixer. Pour into prepared pans. Bake layers 30 to 40 minutes, oblong 45 to 50 minutes, or until cake tests done. Cool. Frost as desired. Delicious ice with a fluffy white icing sprinkled with coconut or strawberry icing.
