CHILI BAKE 
1 sm. green onion bunch, chopped
1 sm. green pepper, chopped
1 lb. ground beef
2 tbsp. shortening
1 #2 can tomatoes
1 c. cooked kidney beans
2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsp. chili powder
1/4 tsp. black pepper

Lightly brown onion, pepper and meat in shortening. Drain off 1/2 cup juice from tomatoes. Add tomatoes, beans and seasonings to meat mixture; mix well; pour into 2 1/2 to 3 quart casserole.

CORN BREAD TOPPING:

3 tbsp. shortening, melted
1/2 c. milk
1 egg, beaten
1 tsp. sugar
1 c. self rising corn meal
1/2 c. self rising flour

Add shortening and milk to egg; stir in remaining ingredients. Drop by spoonfuls on chili mixture. Bake at 400 degrees for 25 minutes until topping is brown.
