BLACK WALNUT COOKIES 
1 c. granulated sugar
1 c. butter, softened
1 egg
2 tsp. vanilla
2 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 c. black walnuts

Mix sugar, butter, egg and vanilla. Stir in remaining ingredients (nuts too). Cover and refrigerate at least 1 hour.

Heat oven to 375. Shape dough into 1 inch balls. Place about 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Flatten with bottom of glass dipped in sugar. Bake a light brown, 8-10 minutes. Immediately remove from cookie sheet. About 6 dozen cookies.
