MOM'S OATMEAL CARMELITAS 
50 caramels
2 c. flour
1 1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1 (6 oz.) pkg. chocolate chips
1 c. nuts, chopped (optional)
1/2 c. evaporated milk
2 c. oatmeal
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. butter, melted

Melt caramels in milk. Cool slightly. Combine remaining ingredients, except the chocolate chips and nuts. Press 3/4 of the crumb mixture in 13 x 9 inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes. Remove from oven and sprinkle with chocolate chips and nuts. Spread with caramel mixture and sprinkle with remaining crumbs. Bake 15-20 minutes longer. Allow to cool and cut into squares.
