GENOEFFA'S CHRISTMAS EVE ZAPPLES 
5 c. flour
1 egg
1 sm. cake yeast or 5 single pkgs. dried yeast
1 tbsp. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
3 c. water
Granulated sugar or honey

Dissolve yeast in warm water. Place flour in large bowl or pot. Put rest of ingredients (except granulated sugar or honey) in center of flour and mix to make a sponge dough. Let this raise but not over raise (doubled). Drop by tablespoon into very hot oil, turn them over so both sides are golden brown. Drain on paper towels. Sprinkle with granulated sugar or honey.
