OLD FASHION TEA CAKES 
1 c. shortening or butter
2 cups sugar
2 eggs, well beaten
1/2 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla flavoring
4 c. plain flour

Cream shortening and sugar and add eggs. Mix soda with buttermilk. Add salt to flour and sift. Combine all ingredients and roll out and cut in shapes or spoon onto cookie sheet and flatten with a fork. Place a pecan half in the center.

Bake in 300°F oven for 10 minutes or until brown.
